First Line Friday: Trials of the Mighty by Kenyon T. Henry

FirstLineFridays

Welcome to First Line Fridays, hosted by Hoarding Books!

How are all of you doing on this wonderful Friday morning? Fridays are my favorite day of the week because I get to read all of your first lines!

Today’s first line comes from the sequel of the book I shared last week. If you enjoy Christian YA fantasy, then I highly recommend this series for you.

The book I’m featuring today is:

Trials of the Mighty by Kenyon T. Henry

Trials of the Mighty

This is probably one of the best Christian YA fantasy series I have read. Here we learn more about the mystery of The Mighty which is very interesting. We also have more kick butt action that gets quite intense. Check out my review to learn more HERE.

And the first line is:

Pastor Benjamin Buchanan yanked his red cloak off his shoulders, tossing it across the large table where he and the council members had often met in years past. He glared at the head councilman, Sam, who stood tall stroking his goatee, his black hair flowing over his white robe. “What on earth were you thinking?” Pastor Buchanan barked.

Hmm..I wonder what Pastor Buchanan is upset about.

Let me know your first line in the comments & then head over to Hoarding Books to see who else is participating! Join us too!

Best Fictional Dads

best fictional dads

Normally I don’t post on the weekends, especially on Sundays, but today I’d like to try something for each of the fun holidays. Today I’d like to take some time to honor each and every father. They are the ones who fix everything, love and cherish us, have our backs no matter what, and are the people that we are proud to call Dads.

But most importantly, I’m thankful for our Heavenly Father Above who sent His One and Only Son on the Cross to die for our sins. Who keeps chasing after us and loving us despite how much we stray from Him and want to do our own thing.

Happy Father’s Day!

Since today is all about father’s, I scoured my bookshelves high and low for some of my favorite fictional fathers.

Top Ten Tuesday: DNFed Books

top ten tuesday

Hello and welcome to Top Ten Tuesdays hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl!

This is a topic that is highly debated about which really made me think about why I don’t usually DNF books. Every now and then I make myself DNF a book though.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with what DNF means, it means “Did Not Finish.” So basically it is any book that you have started reading part way through and not finish it.

I think part of the reason why I rarely DNF a book is because no matter how much a book doesn’t capture my attention, I have to know if it gets any better and see how it ends. I feel like DNFing a book means I’m leaving a book unread and therefore I feel guilty. Most books that I’m just not enjoying I can usually push through, but there are some books that I just can’t do it with.

When I DNF a book, the content or the writing has to be pretty bad. Otherwise, I will always finish the book.

That’s what we’re discussing today.

Here are some of the books that I’ve DNFed over the years.

Hello and good morning!

Welcome to First Line Fridays, hosted by Hoarding Books!

Happy belated Memorial Day! I hope everyone’s day was splendid. The rain held out for a good part of the day which allowed me to be able to spend the day at SeaWorld with my family. They have a super cool deal going on for veterans right now. Veterans can go to the parks for FREE as well as up to three guests until July fourth. Busch Gardens has the same deal going on right now too.

On a side note, it has been raining every single day for over two weeks and I really miss the sun. I apologize for not participating in last week’s First Line Fridays. Every time I would go to write the post, a thunderstorm would happen and I don’t trust keeping my computer plugged in while a storm is happening.  It was the perfect weather to curl up with a good book or two so I accomplished finishing a lot of books this week though.
