Carrie Stuart Parks
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
Release Date:

Genre: Inspirational Suspense/Thriller

Stolen art. A New Mexico archaeological dig. An abandoned dog. And a secret that’s worth killing for.

Evelyn McTavish’s world came crashing down with the suicide of her fiancé. As she struggles to put her life back together and make a living from her art, she receives a call that her dog is about to be destroyed at the pound. Except she doesn’t own a dog. The shelter is adamant that the microchip embedded in the canine with her name and address makes it hers.

Evelyn recognizes the dog as one owned by archaeologist John Coyote because she was commissioned to draw the two of them. The simple solution is to return the dog to his owner—but she arrives only to discover John’s murdered body.

As Evelyn herself becomes a target, she crosses paths with undercover FBI agent Sawyer Price. The more he gets to know her, the more personally invested he becomes in keeping her safe. Together, they’re desperate to find the links between so many disparate pieces.

And the clock is ticking.

“Over the years, Carrie has mastered forensic art, fine art, and her own brand of offbeat humor. As a novelist she combines these skills with another: puzzle writing––scattering puzzle pieces all over her fictional universe and then dropping them into place in twists, surprises, revelations, and side-pocket whimsy until the big picture emerges, never too soon, always on the brink of disaster.” —Frank Peretti

Becky: Hi Carrie! Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with me today. What inspired you to write Fragments of Fear?

Carrie: I wanted to challenge myself to write about a huge character arc, where someone goes through life-changing events and comes out a different, better person. This was difficult for me as I needed to make her likable in the beginning, but still deeply flawed.

Becky: If you could spend the day with one of your characters, who would you choose and what would you do?

Carrie: I’d hang out with Gwen Marcey, just to share her snarky humor. We’d probably have a pedicure, go shopping, have lunch, take in a movie, and agree to get together again soon. All the stuff I seldom, if ever, have time to do.

Becky: That would be so much fun! Which authors inspire you?

Carrie: Frank Peretti, Colleen Coble, Lynette Eason, Robin Caroll, Cara Putman, Erin Healy, Ronie Kendig, oh my, so many more!

Becky: Those are all fabulous suspense authors! Do you do any research for your book? If so, what kind?

Carrie: Yes, yes, yes! I usually physically go to the location, read upwards of 22 books, read articles, interview people, as well as research whatever writing challenge this book presents.

Becky: Wow! That’s impressive! What themes can readers find in your book?

Carrie: Art, forensic art, police procedural, dogs, humor, faith, often forgiveness.

Becky: What do you hope your readers take away from your book the most?

Carrie: The desire to read more of my books! To trust that I’ll deliver a fast-paced, thrilling story with depth and real people. To give a subtle hint of God’s love and hand in our lives.

Becky: Before you go, do you have anything you’re currently working on?

Carrie: Relative Silence! My next book, to be turned in next week. You’ll meet Piper Boone and go on her journey.
