ABOUT THE BOOK
Title: Summer by the Tides
Author: Denise Hunter
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
Release Date: May 21, 2019
Genre: Inspirational Women’s Fiction/Romance
From the bestselling author of The Convenient Groom (now a beloved Hallmark Original movie) comes a heartfelt story of family secrets, forgiveness, and unexpected romance.
Following a painful betrayal, Maddy Monroe’s love life is a wreck, and her restaurant career is in shambles. When her grandmother goes missing, she and her estranged sisters converge at the family beach house in Sea Haven, North Carolina. Being with uptight Nora and free-spirited Emma at the place where their family broke apart is a struggle, and undercurrents of jealousy and resentment threaten to pull the sisters under. In the midst of the storm, sparks begin to fly between Maddy and Gram’s maddening neighbor, Connor Murphy.
As the sisters pack up the family belongings, memories of idyllic, slow-paced summers are resurrected. But long-buried secrets also come to light as Maddy discovers that all was not as it appeared that last summer in Sea Haven–nor today in the seemingly perfect lives of her sisters.
As family tensions rise and Connor causes tumult in Maddy’s heart, the sisters must find a way to accept each other for the women they’ve become before the bitterness of the past destroys their hope for a future.
Hi Denise! Thank you so much for joining me on the blog today. What was your inspiration behind Summer by the Tides?
Honestly, I was so ready to write a beach story. I just love getting to visit the beach, whether in reality or in my imagination. And stories about family and love are right in my sweetspot.
The beach is one of my absolute favorite places to be. If you could spend the day with one of your characters, who would it be? What would you do?
I think I’d take Maddy out for a nice long afternoon of sunbathing and reading on the beach. She needs to relax! Having just been dumped by her boyfriend and professionally sabotaged by the same, she really deserves a day in the sun. I might invite her new neighbor, Connor, along just to watch the sparks fly.
Imagine the book were to be turned into a movie, which actors would you pick to play the lead roles?
Mandy Moore as Maddy and Chad Michael Murray as Connor.
Oh, I love those actors! What do you hope that readers take away from your book the most?
This book is about forgiveness and reconciliation. We all have things we have to move past. Things that will hold us back if we choose to hang onto them. The sisters have to learn to let go of the past and embrace forgiveness if they want to move forward in a healthy way.
Who are the authors that inspire you?
So many! Diane Chamerberlain, Kristan Higgans, Francine Rivers, Colleen Coble, Elin Hilderbrand, and so many others.
I love Francine Rivers and Colleen Coble!
Before you go, do you have any projects that you’re currently working on?
I’m always working on a project. Currently, I’m working on a series set around a lake town in North Carolina, featuring siblings who own a historic inn. The first one, Lake Season, releases in November ’19.
