Jilted was a beautiful conclusion to the Mended Hearts series. It was wonderful to revisit all of the folks in smalltown, Trapp, Texas.

Lynda Turner finally has her story told from her perspective. She has struggled with depression ever her husband had abandoned her and their young daughter fifteen years ago. Her character is very real that many readers will be able to relate to. She’s been through so much during her that she hasn’t truly lived it.

I’m not even sure how to describe this book, except that I think everyone should read it. It really gives the reader to reexamine their faith.

I mean do we even know what persecution really is?

Here in America, we tend to feel like we’re facing persecution just for being a Christian. While some of it may true, we still have the freedom to follow the Lord. We’re lucky to be able to live in a country that allows us to choose our faith. Many countries outside of North America, especially in Asia and Africa, it’s forbidden to be a Christian. The reality of persecution and suffering is a reality. In fact, we hear about this all of the time!

I enjoyed the first two books, although it’s been awhile since I’ve read them so I forgot a lot of what occurred previously. You’ll definitely want to read these in order or you’ll be completely lost. Not only did I enjoy the first two, but this last novel completely blew me away. Continue reading

Glimmer Girls Series by Natalie Grant (Plus a Giveaway!)

Ok ok. You’re right. I’m not a kid. You’re probably wondering why I’m reviewing these though. Well, these are written by Natalie Grant who just so happens to be one of my favorite singers. Plus, these books are so fun and cute that anyone will love them! In fact, I’m giving away a copy of both books in the series to one lucky winner! Stay tuned until the very end to learn more.

The Glimmer Girls are Maddie, Mia, and Lulu. Maddie and Lulu are 10-year-old  twins and Lulu is six. They travel across the country where they discover adventure, mystery, and mischief. Their mother, Gloria Glimmer, plays a similar role to Natalie Grant since she is a famous singer. The girls are smart and sassy but they learn about many lessons along the way. These lessons include being good friends, telling the truth, and a whole more. God is also a huge impact in these stories.

Also, a fun part of this series is that you don’t have to read them in order to know what’s going on. You won’t be confused if you read them out of order because each book takes place in a different country or state. Continue reading

Risen by Angela Hunt

Release Date: January 2016

Publisher: Bethany House

ISBN: 9780764218453

Genre: Historical Fiction / Biblical Fiction

Angela Hunt is one of my favorite authors so when I learned she wrote the novelization of the movie, I was ecstatic and had to read it! While the story is on the redundant side, it’s always fascinating to imagine the resurrection of Jesus Christ through a tribune’s eyes.

I have not seen the movie so I cannot compare the book towards it. However, I have heard that the movie is good but lacks in the scriptural content. Angela Hunt uses tons of scripture references (but not overwhelming!) and lots of historical contexts. She also includes a bibliography of her sources that can be found at the back of the book.
