Glimmer Girls Series by Natalie Grant (Plus a Giveaway!)

Standard

Ok ok. You’re right. I’m not a kid. You’re probably wondering why I’m reviewing these though. Well, these are written by Natalie Grant who just so happens to be one of my favorite singers. Plus, these books are so fun and cute that anyone will love them! In fact, I’m giving away a copy of both books in the series to one lucky winner! Stay tuned until the very end to learn more.

The Glimmer Girls are Maddie, Mia, and Lulu. Maddie and Lulu are 10-year-old  twins and Lulu is six. They travel across the country where they discover adventure, mystery, and mischief. Their mother, Gloria Glimmer, plays a similar role to Natalie Grant since she is a famous singer. The girls are smart and sassy but they learn about many lessons along the way. These lessons include being good friends, telling the truth, and a whole more. God is also a huge impact in these stories.

Also, a fun part of this series is that you don’t have to read them in order to know what’s going on. You won’t be confused if you read them out of order because each book takes place in a different country or state.

A trip to Old London brings them their first detective case! The girls are so excited to be in London that their parents and their nanny, Miss Julia, struggle to keep up with them. Readers will travel to the National Gallery, discover Big Ben, watch the Changing of the Guard, and many other fun places in London. The girls solve the case together, but this is actually Maddie’s story. Maddie is trying to discover who she is and how she fits into her family. She’s quiet and doesn’t like to argue. She gets scared being on stage while Mom and her sisters aren’t. When she witnesses an art theft at the Gallery, she takes her sisters and Miss Julia on a wild and crazy adventure to solve the mystery.

Will Maddie find out what makes her shine?

This is a really fun read! It’s filled with a tour life, adventure, mystery, and faith all tied into one. If you want a book that will teach your kids about making good choices and trusting in God, you’ll definitely want to encourage them to read this.

The girls are just as curious as regular kids are and we learn a lot about other cultures. The questions about the telephone booths in London were a nice touch. I found something new to discover as the pages were turned. There are lots of little lessons such as learning to be brave and the seriousness of running off in London. It was superb and well-done!

26263635A Dolphin Wish by Natalie Grant

Release Date: January 26, 2016

Publisher: Zonderkidz

  • ISBN-10: 0310752531
  • ISBN-13: 978-0310752530

Age Range: 8 – 12 Years

Genre: Juvenile Fiction / Religious / Christian / General / Mystery / Family

Series: Faithgirlz / Glimmer Girls, Book 2

Book two is also a fun and cute read! The girls are in sunny and beachy San Diego, California. The weather is lovely and there are so many sights to check out! They spend a day at Captain Swashbuckler’s Adventure Park when Mia overhears two animal handlers discussing about the trouble they’ve been having keeping all the animals in their homes. The girls are excited for a new challenge. They talk Miss Julia and their parents into another visit at the educational park so they can search for clues in order to figure out who is behind the animals that are escaping.

This time it’s Mia’s story. She discovers a new mystery, but she wants to keep it to herself instead of sharing it with her sisters. Since Maddie figured out the last mystery, she wants to figure this one completely on her own so that she can prove that she can be adventurous as well.

Except it turns into a competition with her sister instead. She confesses to her mother that she has been harboring unkind feelings towards her sister. She learns to give her worries over to God. This is a big theme throughout the book, although there are other little lessons as well.

I love how the girls learn to give their worries over to God. Mia even tells her mom that it is really hard to do even though it sounds so simple. Even we adults struggle with that.

I highly recommend this to anyone with a daughter between the ages 0f 8 and 12. You won’t have to worry about it talking about boys, crushes, or dating because those are not to be seen in the book. It’s all about mysteries, family, and their faith. The girls are strong believers who are fun, want to do big things, and have a huge heart for others.
