Book hangovers are the worst! I finished Heartless by Marissa Meyer the other day and I’m still trying to process everything. The characters, the world building, the plot, everything. I originally bought this because the cover is gorgeous underneath the book jacket. It is by far the best cover I have ever seen on a book!! I mean, just check out the black and red checkerboard with a crown for the king on the front. The same pattern appears on the back, but instead of a crown for the king, it’s a joker’s hat. When I first picked this up, I wasn’t sure what to think. It sounded like a really interesting read, but it is one of the most hyped up books EVER. Everyone has been telling me I have to read this and it’s constantly showing up in my Instagram newsfeed. The cover for the hardback is also super cool. While it took a little bit for me to enjoy it, I have to say that I LOVED THIS BOOK! Read the rest of this entry

About the Book

2dbfb8c1-b14b-4e44-992c-5706dd9bce68-197x300Chelsea Welling is a completely normal fifteen year old girl… well normal except for the pesky fact that she thinks she is going crazy. Either that or she really is being transported to a magical world known locally as Amar. However when Chelsea is transported to Amar with her friend Easton, she knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that these little trips are more than figments of her imagination. Then the unthinkable happens. Chelsea, Easton, Chelsea’s brother Clint, and their mutual friend Bobby are all stranded in Amar. They cannot return to Earth until they finish a dangerous quest that their fathers set out on over twenty years ago.
Chelsea is in for one trying week as she flees from werewolves, faces down faeries, and fits into fancy dresses- all while she struggles alongside her friends to fulfill the all-but-impossible tasks of finding out what the quest their fathers set out on was, and succeeding where their fathers failed.

Let’s just be honest, I was automatically drawn in by the cover. It’s gorgeous and makes you wonder what it’s about. I enjoy books that have young teens feeling different from the world and discovering they have powers. Lost in Thought is very different from most books because while it does take place at a boarding school with teens who have too much freedom and money, that isn’t the sole purpose of the book.

Oh my! Where do I even begin? This was pure awesomeness. I hadn’t read the previous books in the series so I wondered if I was going to need to read them before beginning this. You know, so I won’t get lost and confused. I didn’t! Don’t get me wrong, I will most definitely be reading the prior books, but I didn’t get lost or confused.

Most of us are familiar with the fairy tale of Rapunzel. Melanie Dickerson brings the fairy tale to life with a fresh and unique plot. Unlike most retellings, there is no magic or evil powers. We are only dealing with a woman who is twisted and wicked by her past and therefore tries to do it to others.

Seventeen-year-old Rapunzel lives with her mother, Gothel, in medieval Hagenheim. She can throw a knife, paint beautiful flowers and vines, sing beautifully, but there are two things that she’s afraid that her mother will never allow her to do. That is to learn to read and to marry. In fact, every time a man shows interest in Rapunzel, Gothel makes them pack up and move to another place.

Release Date: November 2015

Publisher: Bethany House

ISBN: 9780764213465

Genre: Fiction/Fantasy

Series: The Darkwater Saga

The Shock of the Night is a must read for any fantasy lover. Professionally written, full of creativity, fantasy and adventure, will make you feel as if you entered a completely different world. It is deep, dark, and downright depressing at times, but it is an enjoyable read nonetheless.

Although, not exactly considered a Christian Fiction novel as it is a world where God does not seem to exist, there are some elements. For example, the book is heavily set on gifts or talents that God (also known as Aer in their world) gives. There are gifts or talents for almost everything ranging from musical, the ability to design, swordsmanship, and so on.
