I’m not even sure how to describe this book, except that I think everyone should read it. It really gives the reader to reexamine their faith.

I mean do we even know what persecution really is?

Here in America we tend to feel like we’re facing persecution just for being a Christian. While some of it may true, we still have freedom to follow the Lord. We’re lucky to be able to live in a country that allows us to choose our faith. Many countries outside of North America, especially in Asia and Africa, it’s forbidden to be a Christian. The reality of persecution and suffering is a reality. In fact, we hear about this all of the time!

This is a different kind of book so I’m not entirely sure how to review it. It’s a really neat guide and if you are interested in different countries or want to be a missionary, then I would recommend this for you. Brian C. Stiller shares insights on many countries that we have heard of, such as Kenya, China, and Korea, but also about countries that we never knew existed. For example, have you heard of Moziambique? Chances are you probably haven’t. I know I haven’t.

In fact, she found herself wondering if there was something wrong with her – was she not pretty enough? Not fun enough? Not datable enough? So she turned to God as she began to pray earnestly for God to bring the man she was meant to marry into her life.

Instead, she was given eight matchmakers.

I Was Blind (Dating), but Now I See is a true story about a young woman who tried really hard to find someone she could fall in love with despite the fact that she kept falling flat on her face. Amid the most cringe-worthy and awkward situations, Stephanie’s journey shows how God’s grace and love can meet us in ways we never could have imagined. Release Date: October 13, 2015

Publisher: Thomas Nelson

ISBN-10: 1400205417

ISBN-13: 978-1400205417

Genre: RELIGION / Christian Life / Spiritual Growth

The title is perfect when it comes to describing Jefferson Bethke’s book. It’s Not What You Think! Most of us have heard of the Gospel, but how many of us actually understand what it is and what it means? The Gospel is so much more than just a transaction between us and Jesus Christ. Jesus didn’t just die on the Cross so that we can go to heaven when we die.

Bethke guides his readers from the creation of the universe in Genesis to the celebration in Revelation. When we learn to examine the Bible from the beginning, we see a story so much more beautiful and compelling than how many Christians are telling it today. This was definitely my favorite part that he focused on. When it comes to the Bible, we can’t just take bits and pieces that we like. We need both the New and Old Testament because it shows us the whole story.

Licensed marriage and family therapist Kim Fredrickson offers a unique approach to self-compassion. I majored in counseling when I was in college so I found it really fascinating and a useful resource. It is well-written gentle in its text, and Biblically sound. I’m excited that there is a book on this topic because there aren’t many.

As Christians, it can be really difficult to incorporate the practice of self-compassion. Read the rest of this entry
