Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite Villains

Favorite Villains

Hello and welcome to Top Ten Tuesdays hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl!

Today is all about the villains! Honestly, this was a super hard topic because I had a hard time coming up with villains that I actually liked. I think it’s probably because I’ve been reading mostly contemporary and historical fiction that I couldn’t think of a single one. Oh well, here are a few of the ones that popped into my brain.

  1. Voldemort from The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling

VoldermortThis dude you’re probably familiar with. He is one the biggest, baddest baddies. He is known as “He Who Must Not Be Named” or “The Dark Lord”. His goal is to get rid of any Muggle (non-magical person) and keeping only those who are considered pure-blood so he can take over both the Muggle and wizarding worlds. He also happens to be the leader of the Death Eaters and the enemy of Harry Potter.

  2. AIDEN from The Illuminae Files by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

This is probably one of the creepiest and scariest computer intelligence systems out there. Even though it’s not human, I’m counting it as a villain. This AI was originally created to protect the fleet, but since it relies only on calculations, it never believes it can be wrong and tries to justify them. It will always choose to kill thousands of people in order to protect the fleet. It also has a strange obsession with Katy Grant in a romantic sort of way and gets very jealous of Ezra Mason.

  3. Gollum/Smeagol from The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien

GollumDoes Gollum count as a villain? He talks to himself, especially in third-person, is obsessed with the ring to the point that it’s how he dies, and causes many problems for Frodo and the gang.

I’m not even sure why I included him as a favorite, but he is. It’s probably because you can’t have the Lord of the Rings without him. He’s one of the main characters and he isn’t exactly one of the good guys. But I still love this creepy fellow.

  4. Cosmo Paratore from The River of Time series by Lisa T. Bergren

This one you probably won’t be familiar with unless you’ve read the River of Time series by Lisa T. Bergen. This guy appears throughout the entire series and he is up to no good. He is not only one who demands war and will kill anyone who gets in his way, but he even locked Gabi in a cage wearing a wedding dress and tried to force her to marry him once.

And that’s a wrap! Who are some of your favorite villains in fiction? Let me know in the comments below.
