Top Ten Tuesdays: Favorite Character Names

Hello and welcome to Top Ten Tuesdays hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl!

One of my favorite things about books is the character names, especially if it’s one that is original and stands out. You know, the kind of name that you would name your dog or child after because that character is memorable. Here are my top ten favorite character names.

    1. Eliyana from The Unblemished Trilogy by Sara Ella
Eliyana is one of those characters that annoyed me when I first met her, but she has grown on me since. Her name, especially, has become one of my favorite fictional names. It’s so unique, original, and beautiful.

    2. Hadassah from The Mark of the Lion Trilogy by Francine Rivers
I originally fell in love with the name Hadassah when I first read the book of Esther in the Bible. When I learned that Hadassah was originally Esther’s Hebrew name, I loved it even more. So when I came across one of Francine Rivers’ characters who had the same name, it just added to why I love it so much. When we first her, she is this scared, shy, timid girl who was afraid to make her faith known but by the end of the book finds herself befriending her slave owners, sharing her faith with them, and even becoming a martyr for Jesus Christ. This is also a name that I want to name one of my daughters if I ever have kids.

    3. Moriyah from A City on the Hill by Connilyn Cossette
This is another Hebrew name that we don’t hear much of and it has become an instant favorite. Now when I hear it, I think of a woman who hides behind a veil to hide her scars. We first see Moriyah as this timid and scared young woman who hides behind her veil and blossom into a confident woman who knows the Lord is on her side. It’s a powerful story and if you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend it.

    4. Luna from The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling
It’s been such a long time since I’ve read the Harry Potter series so I barely remember her character. I remember this whacky weird girl with the weird fashion who became a good friend to the gang. But she also had an awesome name.

    5. Adela from The Creek Country Saga by April W. Gardner
I can’t imagine experiencing some of the experiences that Adela experienced, but she displays love, compassion, and forgiveness towards those who have wronged her. This was beautifully done because she this couldn’t have been easy. I mean, if you were in Adela’s shoes and all of your friends and family were murdered in a massacre by the Red Skins and then taken captive as slaves, would you have done the same thing? Plus, she has a strong faith in God and she has a unique name.
    6. Jesse from The Mediator Series by Meg Cabot
I’m going to have to go back and revisit this series one of these days because this was one of my favorites when I was younger. Jesse was the fictional character that I was pining away and dreaming of in my middle school years. He was a handsome ghost from the 1800s (I think I remembered that correctly. It’s been so long since I’ve read these books.) Whenever I hear the name Jesse, I always think of this guy. If I ever have children one day, I’ve always wanted to name at least one of my sons Jesse.
    7. Eragon from the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini
I’ll admit. I kind of had a major crush on this guy before I even read the books. Plus, he had a cool name and was a dragon rider. How cool is that?

    8. Arya from the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini
Arya is the daughter of Elf King and later becomes Eragon’s girlfriend. I always thought her name was pretty cool though.
    9. Saphira from the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini
Saphira was Eragon’s dragon in the series and she, too, has a beautiful name.
    10. Éowyn from The Lord of the Rings Trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien
I honestly don’t even remember who this character was in the books, but I thought the name was pretty unique. Plus, there’s even a Christian artist with her name.

These are my top ten favorite fictional names. What are some of your favorites? It doesn’t have to be from this list. Let me know in the comments below!
