My Thoughts:

I have never read anything from Brenda Minton before and after reading, “The Rancher’s Secret Child,” it most certainly won’t be my last. That’s one of the things that I love about the Love Inspired books because you’ll always discover new-to-you authors! There are two other books in this series, but can easily be read as a stand-alone.

One of the things that I love about this series is that it has characters going through realistic and tough situations, yet the author keeps it light and fun so that it doesn’t drain the reader. How Brenda Minton does it, I have no idea! Plus, it was perfect for a bad stormy day when I just needed something light to read. Oh, and it helped that there was a bad storm happening in the book as well!

And by tough situations, we’re talking about Marcus Palermo, a man who finds out he has a five-year-old son that he had no idea existed until he arrives on his property with a woman named Lissa Hart. He’s already a moody guy who doesn’t think he’s a good person and is afraid of turning of turning into his abusive father so when he learns he has a child, it completely turns his world upside down. While he has no idea how to be a father and he is scared out of his mind, he is a good godly man who is kind, caring, compassionate, cares more about others’ needs above himself, and will do anything to help those who are in need. I loved his character so much.

Lissa Hart is also still struggling to let go of her past. She grew up in a rough home as well and has practically raised Marcus’ son as her own even though she isn’t his biological mother. What I loved most about her was that she was willing to give Marcus a chance to bond with his son and to be a father to him as well as letting him go even though it would hurt to lose him. She is a strong and independent woman that I loved reading about.

The town of Bluebonnet Springs is also an instant favorite fictional town. The Palermo family because like your own family. They’ve been through a lot, but they are a loving family who jokes with and cares about each other. It was beautiful to watch.

This is a story that is about finding the love of God, forgiveness, letting go, and learning to trust again.

Overall, I loved this story so much and I can’t wait to go back and read the other books! Plus, this is one of those books that can easily be read in one sitting. It happened to me.

Highly recommended!

Brenda MintonAbout Brenda Minton:

Brenda Minton lives in the Ozarks with her husband, children, cats, dogs, and strays. She is a pastor’s wife, Sunday-school teacher, coffee addict, and sleep deprived. Not in that order. Her dreams to be an author for Harlequin started somewhere in the pages of a romance novel about a young American woman stranded in a Spanish castle. Her dreams came true, and twenty-plus books later, she is an author hoping to inspire young girls to dream.
