The Christmas Blessing by Melody Carlson
Release Date: September 5, 2017
Genre: Fiction / Christmas / Novella
About the Book:
When she receives the news in late 1944 that her baby’s father was shot down in the South Pacific, Amelia Richards loses hope. Jobless and broke, she has nowhere to turn for help but her infant’s paternal grandparents. The only problem is, they don’t know that she–or their grandson–exists. When Amelia discovers that the family is wealthy and influential, dare she disclose the truth of her relationship with their son? Or could the celebration of the arrival of another unexpected baby nearly two thousand years ago be the answer to her dilemma?
Beloved author Melody Carlson pens a story of love, hardship, and reconciliation that will leave readers filled with Christmas joy.
Melody Carlson is one of my favorite authors so I’ll read any of her books without having to know anything about it. The Christmas Blessing is this year’s Christmas novella. If you enjoy Hallmark movies, then this would probably be for you. It deals with a somewhat heavy topic about a young woman who is grieving the death of her fiance and longs for a better life for her baby. It’s a quick read (I read it in only a matter of hours), super light, and cheesy cute. It’s more of a contemporary than a romance although there is a tiny bit of that.
While I enjoyed this, it wasn’t my favorite nor do I think this was Melody Carlson’s best. It was well done for a novella, but there were some areas that I wish she explained a little more in detail. I wanted to know what landed Amelia into such poverty and why she was so desperate. I enjoyed that this was a World War II novella and that we had characters who were Navy pilots. I thought the ending was a little rushed and was disappointed to see hardly any of the spiritual content that the author is known for. It is a story of hope, love, and grace.
If you enjoy a light and quick reads, then I’d recommend this for you.
