The Warrior’s Captive Bride is intriguing. Skylark is a medicine woman from the Crow Tribe. She is out gathering plants for medicines when she is spotted by Night Storm, a warrior from a neighbor tribe. He is immediately taken by her beauty and wants to make her his second wife. Before he could attempt to do anything about it, he is struck with an illness. Believing that Skylark is a witch who has cursed him, they meet again. Soon enough he realizes that he was mistaken and tries to convince her to help heal him. Sky isn’t like most of the women of her tribe. She focuses on her healing abilities, caring for her father, and would love a husband and children. None of the men from her tribe seem interested in her and she refuses to marry a man with more than one wife. She is immediately drawn to Night Storm, but she won’t become a second wife. She will help heal him, but she is none too happy about the methods of accomplishing that.
Storm is a warrior. This means that he is to be strong and can’t show a weakness of any kind. He can’t tell anyone about his illness or he could be exiled from his tribe. He convinces Sky to become his bride, then she could return to her people once he is healed. She agrees on the condition that while she is there, he will not take another wife. What happens when they realize that their attraction for each other goes much deeper? As time goes on, the closer the two become and wish to never leave the other. However, there are many obstacles in their path.
It is well-written and the historical aspects were well researched as it shines throughout the story. Native Americans have a unique culture and it was captured well.
I do have to mention that there are some brief sexual (I quickly skipped over those parts) and spiritual content, but overall, it was a great read.
The characters will capture your heart in an instant. You’ll laugh, cry, scream, and cheer all throughout.
