You’re the One That I Want is Susan May Warren’s sixth and last novel of the Christiansen family series. This time Owen and his older brother Casper play the starring role.
Owen Christiansen had it all. He was a hockey player in the NHL for the St. Paul Blue Ox until it had all forfeited when he got injured. He leaves his home of Minnesota and moves to Alaska where he lands a job as crab fisherman. In his mind he believes this could be a fresh start and perhaps a shot at romance with Elise “Scotty” McFlynn, who also just so happens to be the captain’s daughter.
Scotty is used to being one of the guys with her tough girl attitude, making everyone respond with “yes, sir”. She doesn’t believe in happily ever after – especially with someone like Owen. When Casper Christiansen drags his brother home and unloading a ton of family drama, Scotty’s opinion of Owen is confirmed. What’s even worse is that Casper is wanted for questioning to a crime back home in Minnesota.
Scotty learns that there is much more to Owen when she agrees to escort the two from her job as a part of the police force in Anchorage to his small town home, Deep Haven. Scotty never had the experience of a real family. Will Scotty learn to embrace an unfamiliar world of family, love and see a potential happy ending or will she run away from all of it? Will she help Casper clear his name of something that he’s innocent of?
Well, you’re just going to have to read the novel for yourself. This is the kind of novel that I enjoy reading. It’s a brilliant masterpiece. The plot is engaging and will make you keep turning the pages to find out what happens next. Trust me, I stayed up in the wee hours in the night until I finished it. It was that good!
I loved getting into Owen’s head and learning more about more about him. He’s so real. Broken. Watching his journey as he tries to figure out his need for God and what his future is going to look like is powerful. Anyone can identify with his story.
The Christiansen family that is real. They’re just like any ordinary family that deal with issues. They all have differences in opinion, personality, and real life issues as they learn to discover to be the people they are meant to be. Be prepared to laugh and cry and all of the other emotions in this final book.
Susan May Warren also intertwines a powerful Gospel message without being overly preachy and at just the appropriate times within the story.
